Celebration & Mayoral Inauguration: “Christmas in Newport” at Colony House

Forum members ended the year with a celebration of “Christmas in Newport” at Colony House with an architectural tour of the  Colony House (1739) designed by Richard Munday. The evening also included food, drink and live traditional holiday music by a violin duet before the lighting of a bonfire and the firing of the 18th century canons in Washington Square.


-December 1, 2014

Declaration: “Newport World Heritage Commission” by Governor Chafee at the Colony House

Forum members were invited to participate in theofficial inauguration of a “Newport World Heritage Commission” by Governor Chafee at the Colony House with other preservation leaders from around the city and state. 


-October 21, 2014 

Panel Discussion: Water Use and management on Aquidneck Island by SRU

Many Forum members attended a Panel Discussion on  “Water Use and management on Aquidneck Island,” which was hosted by Salve Regina University at the Pell Center. 


-October 20, 2014 

Presentation & Cocktails: “Rhody Preservation Awards” at Aldrich Mansion by Preserve Rhode Island

Forum member received a substantial discount to attend the cocktails and presentation of the “Rhody Preservation Awards” at Aldrich Mansion by Preserve Rhode Island, which included several Newport projects. 


-September 28, 2014 

“Planning Newport’s Open Space Future” at Jane Pickens Theatre

Forum members received a special invitation to the panel on “Planning Newport’s Open Space Future” at Jane Pickens Theatre organized by Newport Open Space.  The next day many Forum members were invited to participate in the Design Professionals Charrette on open space as preparation for a more public open space charrette to be held in the future. 


-September 19-20, 2014 

Presentation of the Doris Duke Preservation Awards at Rough Point

Once again the Forum members were accorded “professional status” by the Newport Restoration Foundation to the Gala Dinner & Presentation of the Doris Duke Preservation Awards at Rough Point. Savings on this event alone rebated members they annual dues several times over. 


-September 5, 2014 

Bettie Pardee’s Living Newport at Rosecliff in association with the PSNC

Forum members were accorded a membership discount and were in strong attendance at the Book Launch and Singing of Bettie Pardee’s Living Newport at Rosecliff in association with the Preservation Society of Newport County. 


-August 27, 2014 

Celebration of the reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Old Colony House in Newport, RI

The Forum once again helped organize the Celebration of the reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Old Colony House—the same place the Declaration was original read to the people of Newport back in 1776! 


-July 4, 2014 

Master Class: with Norman McGrath, architectural photographer at Newport Art Museum

Forum members received a particular invitation to the master class: given by architectural photographer Norman McGrath at the Newport Art Museum and presented by the Newport Photo Guild. 


-June 18, 2014 

Newport Architectural Symposium on Richard Morris Hunt in association with the Tennis Hall of Fame

2014 The Architectural Forum was once again a principal organizer and sponsor of the annual Newport Architectural Symposium held at the Newport Casino. This year the theme was Richard Morris Hunt, who was a frequent visitor to Newport and who was known as the “Dean of American Architects” for his great contributions to the profession.
